Wendy’s Bottle

Wendy’s Bottle

Wendy’s Bottle is a very small natural wine cellar in this beautiful and quiet district of Yeonnam where we had the chance to live. We are still a fan of the small size of the store with a very local decoration (maybe we can talk about a Korean bobo style?). In any case, this wine cellar has a lot of natural wine references. If you are in the area, go for it!

  • Hours : monday to saterday 10 am to 12 am

Found Local is a Seoulite natural wine bar but also a Korean fusion bistro. Located in Chanwondong close to hangang river (we really recommend to hang out around there, maybe with a bottle of wine ?). Found local is one of those places where the atmosphere is worked to perfection as Koreans know how to do so well. Every light, every detail has been meticulously chosen. A large central table, perfect for after-work drinks (typical in the Korean work culture) and meeting people. But, as always, our favorite place is at the bar, where you can get a close look at the way the cooker handle the dish and talk about natural wines with the sommelier.

Geumnam Vin

  • Address : 1094 Geumhodong 4(sa)-ga, Seongdong-gu

Geunnam Vin is a natural wine bar and restaurant located next to the Geumnam market (where you will find great kimchi and side dishes of all kinds). In this natural wine restaurant, they serve traditional Korean dishes in a relaxed atmosphere. Mikyung Jo, the owner, used to live in Paris, where she also ran a wine bar. Her Parisian experience is reflected in the place. The menu changes daily, yum. It is the perfect place to drink good natural wines while discovering Korean cuisine in a mixed atmosphere.

Near Yangjae Creek, Dogokokk Nature Wine Bar is a small venue located in Dogokdong. This small causy bar opened in 2019. Very welcoming, there are only five tables and a simple decor (we just love this kind of Asian mini-bar, very popular in Japan). The owner, Dongwoo Choi, is super nice and passionate about natural wine.

Natural wines in Seoul

Natural wine started to grow in Seoul around 2017. But it wasn’t until 2-3 years later that it took off phenomenally. Koreans don’t do things by halves. And in Seoul, fads are pretty viral. By the time natural wine made the news in Korea, it had already been popular for a few years in Japan. In contrast, the appeal of no chimicals wine in Seoul has been democratized at a rapid pace. That almost every wine bar has natural wines on part or all of its menu in just a few years.
We were living in Seoul at the time of the natural wine boom, and it was amazing to realize that even in ultra-modern looking bars that didn’t fit the usual natural wine codes we knew, we could find good bottles of natural wine.
The small drawback of natural wine in Seoul is its price. Foreign alcohol are heavily taxed, rents are expensive, and decoration expenses are generous, this is reflected on the price of the bottles.

In short, in Seoul it will not be difficult to get nice bottles of natural wine and to find names that we like: among the wines that we remember having drunk there, there were Beck-Hartweg, Lapati wines and even Labet!
